Seaweed: Sustainability

Is this sustainable?

Yes, as sustainability is essential to the Rosita® family. As mentioned before, our harvesters venture out in all-weather to handpick the seaweed during their peak growing periods, when the plants are in optimal condition and rich in nutrients. Unlike the standard machine harvesting method, individual plants are cut so that enough remains for regrowth and reproduction. We work in small teams and access the foreshore on foot. And, we follow the most stringent ecological regulations to ensure the local ecosystem can continue to thrive.  Our award-winning, certified process does not use or disturb the sea life or local wildlife.  Rosita® Wild Seaweed is Certified Organic, Scottish Natural Heritage Approved and has received the PETA Farming Award.*

What is the Scottish Natural Heritage Award?

The Scottish Natural Heritage Award is part of the broader Nature of Scotland Awards, which celebrates outstanding contributions to nature conservation and sustainability in Scotland. These awards aim to recognize individuals, communities and organizations positively impacting Scotland’s natural environment.

What is the PETA Farming Award?

The PETA Farming Award, launched by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), recognizes farms that focus on ethical, animal-free farming practices. This award highlights producers who are at the forefront of sustainable, plant-based agriculture, promoting environmental benefits while avoiding animal exploitation. The initiative celebrates farms that grow crops such as vegetables, grains, seaweed, and mushrooms using eco-friendly methods, often without the use of animal-derived fertilizers or products.
